The Golfer's Fall Gift Guide: Candles for Season-Enders, Milestone Rounds and Winter Trips

By Hannah Ross, Home & Gifts

Fall is a funny time to be a golfer. In much of the country, the season is winding down. Frost delays start showing up, leaves land in the fairways and the clubs spend more time in the garage than in the trunk. In the desert, it's the opposite. Arizona's busy season is just getting started.

That makes October and November a smart time to shop. You can match the gift to the season they just had (good, bad or somewhere in the middle), and you're done before the December rush. Thanksgiving is November 26 this year, and Hanukkah begins at sundown on December 4.

Here's how we'd shop for the golfers on your list.

Start with the scent

Our funny golfer candles come in nine fragrances plus unscented, so you can match the jar to the time of year. Each one comes in a 4oz size ($24.99, about 25 to 30 hours of burn time) or a 9oz size ($29.99, about 50 to 60 hours), in an amber or clear glass jar.

A quick seasonal cheat sheet:

  • Spiced Pumpkin Ginger for now through Thanksgiving.
  • Comfort Spice or Vanilla Bean for the long, cozy stretch of winter.
  • Fresh Balsam for December, when everyone wants the house to smell like a tree lot.
  • Unscented when you're not sure. Some people love the jar and the joke but not the fragrance, and that's fine.

For the golfer who had a great year: Golfer of the Year

Every group has one. The friend who showed up for every early tee time, kept the mood up and maybe made the putt of the summer. They probably didn't get a trophy, so give them one that smells better.

The Golfer of the Year candle works as an end-of-season award. Hand it out at the last round of the year, the league banquet or the closing scramble. One heads-up: the label has a little bleeped-out attitude, so it's best for someone with a sense of humor.

For the round they'll never stop talking about: Broke 90 and Broke 80

Milestone rounds deserve more than a high five in the parking lot. If someone on your list finally broke 90 this year, you've already heard about it. Probably more than once.

The Broke 90 candle says "Finally Broke 90" right on the label. For the better player, there's Broke 80. Either way, the best upgrade costs nothing: ask for the signed scorecard ahead of time and tuck it in with the candle, or frame it to go next to the jar.

For the golfer who would rather forget this season

Not every year is a career year. For the friend who spent most of the summer in the trees, a little humor goes further than sympathy.

Pair any of these with Comfort Spice. It's hard to stay mad at your short game with a warm candle going.

For the winter golf trip: TPC Scottsdale and We-Ko-Pa

When the courses back home close, a lot of golfers head for the desert. If someone on your list has an Arizona trip on the calendar, give them a preview before they go.

TPC Scottsdale's Stadium Course is home to the WM Phoenix Open and its famous 16th, the par 3 that turns into a stadium every February. It's also a public course, so plenty of visitors play it. Our TPC Scottsdale candle is poured in Cinnamon Vanilla, our pick for warm, dry desert air.

For the golfer who prefers quiet, there's We-Ko-Pa, also in Cinnamon Vanilla. Its Coore and Crenshaw-designed Saguaro course was named Arizona's No. 1 public course in Golfweek's 2026 rankings, and there isn't a single house on the property.

If they'd rather put the course on the wall, our friends at Shop Golf Maps make a TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course map panel. Candle on the shelf, map above it. That's a nice little golf corner.

For the major championship fan: Valhalla

Some golfers measure the year by the majors. Valhalla in Louisville, a Jack Nicklaus design, has hosted four PGA Championships (1996, 2000, 2014 and 2024) and the 2008 Ryder Cup. Its most recent major ended with Xander Schauffele winning by one shot over Bryson DeChambeau.

The Valhalla candle comes in Cinnamon Vanilla, White Sage Lavender or Clean Cotton. For a Kentucky course on a cold November night, we'd go with Cinnamon Vanilla.

Stocking stuffers and the office gift swap

The 4oz funny candles are easy to tuck into a stocking or bring to a gift exchange. For the white elephant crowd, Should Help with Farts gets the biggest reaction when it's unwrapped. (We don't make the rules. We just make the candles.)

A few gifting tips

  1. Tie it to a memory. A course they played, a trip they took or a score they finally posted. The story is what makes a candle feel personal.
  2. Add one small thing from the round. A scorecard, a ball marker or a printed photo from the 18th green.
  3. Shop early. With Thanksgiving on November 26 and Hanukkah starting December 4, getting it done in October takes the pressure off.
  4. Pass along one burn tip. For our course candles, we recommend burning no more than 3 to 4 hours at a time.

Whatever kind of year they had, there's a candle for it. You'll find the full lineup at Course Candles.
